Mobile Phone Safety

With the prevalence of very expensive mobile phones/smartphones belonging to pupils in the school it is important that your daughter is aware of the potential for her phone to be mislaid or stolen. With this is mind we would like to draw your attention to the following:

In mobile phones and iPads/tablets there is a unique code which identifies the item, it is separate from the SIM card. This code is referred to as IMEI (International Mobile Station Equipment).

If a phone is taken and this code is recorded then not only can it be used as evidence to identify the stolen item for prosecution, in some cases the phone can be blocked from use after it has been taken.

To find this code just enter  *#06# (star hash zero six hash) into the keypad of the phone.  The IMEI should immediately pop up on the screen.  Write it down and keep it safely in case needed.

Just to mention that the IMEI is available in different places

1. when entering the code *#06# into the phone kepad

2. the documentation that comes with any new phone

3. when you take the battery out of the back of the phone it should be visible

4. on some tablets/ipads it is written on the back or side of the item

We would also like to draw your attention to our mobile phone policy which can be read here.
