All students and staff are invited to use the wonderful resource that is the school library. It has an extensive range of books covering all subject areas of the school curriculum and a fiction section which caters for the diverse reading tastes of our users such as romance, crime, suspense, action, humour, chick lit, classics, science fiction and fantasy. The collection is being constantly updated to reflect the interests and preferences of our discerning readers.
Book Clubs are held twice a week. These are very social and informal as well as informative occasions. They start at 8am for last for about 45 minutes. The early starts are no deterrent to good discussion, laughter and games such as quizzes and charades or the consumption of endless amounts of biscuits, juices and hot chocolate. Book clubs are organised by classes and book titles or themes for discussion are chosen by the girls. As well as discussing the merits of best sellers and recent publications, we also take time to read and discuss some of the classics.
The chess club meets in the library every Friday morning under the direction of Miss Tuite and coordinated by Transition Year chess enthusiasts. Chess players are encouraged to join the club so they can be part of the school chess team which regularly enters the Inter School Chess League, a challenging and fun experience.
The library is open from 8am – 4.45pm Monday to Thursday and 8am – 2.30pm on Fridays and all members of the Muckross school community are most welcome.
