On the 14^th of January, the Ultimate Frisbee team from Muckross College Park competed in their first tournament. They played 6 matches in total, facing two other girls teams from St. Dominick’s in Cabra and two games against male opposition from St. Fintain’s in Sutton. Against the fist Dominick’s team they won straight through, winning 8-1. However their second match was much harder fought and ended up at 5-5 as the hooter sounded. The games against the boys were much more difficult as the ladies had only been training for a few weeks at this stage. But they played as well as they could and learned a lot about speed vs height.

Ultimate Frisbee is a sport that is all about fair play at its heart. There are no referees and normally only two prizes are given out at tournaments, the wining team and the team with the most spirit of the game. Spirit includes the likes of fair play, fun to play against, knowledge of the rules and indeed good spirit. This is voted on by every team at the end of each match, and at the end of the tournament the scores are added up. As this was a beginner’s blitz, there was no overall winner, but the Spirit of the game trophy was awarded to the girls from Muckross. Their coach Mr Farrell was delighted by their performance and their dedication to a brand new sport.

Muckross will host an all-female competition on Wednesday the 27^th of January in the school and the club has grown since then. All seniors are welcome to training which is on Tuesdays during lunch.
